Junior Aerospace Engineer (Torino)

Job description:

The job position is addressed to Aerospace Engineering graduates or enthusiastic connoisseurs of the aerospace industry, with focus on the Design and Implementation of our Aircraft, and its Flight Control System. The main activity is set inside a teamwork and regards the development and testing of the innovative High Altitude Pseudo Satellite (HAPS), called CubeHAPSĀ®. This small platform flies at 15-20km of altitude and offers satellite-like services, exploiting attitude and trajectory control capabilities.

In particular, the candidate will work on the development and improvement of an existing version of a Flight Control System and an existing Flight Simulator. The role shall have autonomous and results oriented approach. This is a practical activity, and the outputs will be tested in the real environment. Thus, a candidate enthusiastic about innovation and challenging ideas is welcome.

The internship is carried out in the framework of the Incubation Program of ESA BIC Turin and involves initiatives with European Space Agency. At the end of the activity, permanent job opportunity is possible.


Duties:

The candidate will improve the Flight Simulator and Flight Control System, that will be validated in real operational environment. The challenge is, form one hand, to reduce the error of the trajectories between the simulated and the real ones and provide predictive tools supporting the operators during the mission, and from the other, to find the correct aerodynamic parameters and the correct control law for the aircraft.


Required/appreciated qualifications:
  • Deep knowledge on electronics and propulsion systems for drones and UAV
  • Experiences with Creo Parametrics for 3D CAD
  • Concepts of flight simulation and dynamics of drones and UAV and/or experiences with model aircraft
  • Concepts of 3D printing and mechanical integration
  • Software development capabilities with Python and C
  • Concepts of flight simulations and flight dynamics or experiences with similar dynamic simulators
  • Driving license (B)
